It's called "direct revelation" when you receive a message from a tree, a stone, or a wild creature. When nature communicates metaphorically in a way that you understand, that is direct revelation. You sense, see, feel, or hear something that gives you guidance, a message, or an answer to a question you have.
How might you experience direct revelation?
The first step is to get yourself outside. The wilder the place, the faster you can switch gears!
The second step
is to open your senses to develop your awareness…Let your feet feel the earth as your muscles strain to carry you up the hill. Sing to the stones. Climb a tree or rest your back against one, listening. Lie on the earth. Listen to the stream gurgling, the unfamiliar birds singing, the grasses shifting in the breeze.
The third step is to let go of the heaviness you
carry—lists, worry, overthinking, sadness—as you let yourself sink into the spacious wild energy of earth and sky, stone and water.
Then you might pose a single question, or simply wait.
Being in nature helps you relax and let go of stress. Your
endorphins increase, reducing sensations of pain and anxiety. Being in a sacred place opens you up to a bigger picture.
The longer you listen and sink into stillness and presence, the more your body relaxes and your senses open to messages coming your way.
Sometimes I like doing this alone—no talking, no responding to other people’s stories.
I also love sharing this sort of shamanic experience in a group where we weave silence with interaction and play with deep resonance. When we share our messages, we learn more about the possibilities of direct revelation. Experiencing with our tribe helps us normalize and enjoy what we often keep hidden.
My many indigenous teachers taught me the transformative power of connection, and I’m passionate about sharing it. Join me on one of the sacred mountains. Share your own experiences of sacred place here!
