, Recently a client of mine complained of constant tension. He also said he did not feel and enjoy the earth as he had when growing up.
I helped him look ways he could frame these issues.
He decided to pose the question, “what is my wound of disconnect from nature?” in a shamanic journey while I drummed for him.
Afterwards, he told me, “I had wonderful experiences, riding on a whale into a cave for a long time, feeling the whale’s skin and tail, seeing her eye. But I didn’t get an answer to the question.”
I said to him, “Your experience was the answer! Making time to enjoy your connections is the antidote to your tension and disconnect. The
metaphor of a peaceful journey on a whale is a gift to you and a reminder of how to reconnect.”
It is wonderful to help people reframe their experience in this way. By observing and articulating his feelings, this client was able to create some space for a change and experience renewal on the spot.
When we say that shamanism is “stepping between worlds,” we are talking about perceiving differently: reframing, reexperiencing, exploring alternative interpretations of
