Greetings , Summer solstice, along with the coming full moon, is a perfect time to spark your inner light. The light outside can feed your inner glow; it can light up your inner smile. Seasonal changes,
like the summer solstice, are great metaphorical guides, as we and all our indigenous relatives know well! Light is metaphor for aliveness and radiance, a symbol of hope and optimism. Light is connected to life and vitality. We celebrate the longest day for these reasons, for the growth and joy it brings us. The light in your eyes emanates the love in your heart. The green beans, basil, melons, and tomatoes in your garden, or at the Farmer’s Markets, are growing with the light. You can feel the warmth that draws you to lakes, rivers, swimming pools, picnics, baseball games, concerts. Everywhere you go, you'll find children screaming in joy as they spash, race, play outside. My guides and power animals constantly remind me about being light. The Old Ones in particular say, “What you humans really need to do is learn to shine all the time, and weave your webs of connection with all beings on a regular basis. We love it
when the earth is lit with your inner lights!” Last week I taped two notes below my computer: Remember how to be light. Find my inner smile. I share with you exactly what I tell myself! Your Soul Light You were a little bundle of light when you were born, a radiant being. Everyone wanted to hold you, be near you! Babies bring shining potential into the world, and all of us have a deep, visceral remembrance of this. Then families, school, society, and life’s vicissitudes (probably) dimmed
your light. I’ve often wished that didn’t happen, that wasn’t so hard to be radiant, be our light. But everyone I know, no matter how cool or self-realized or successful they are, experiences this challenge. Soul loss often dims or takes your innate radiance away. In doing soul retrieval for so many people over the years, it thrills me to see how, when soul parts are
returned and we do the healing and remembering work— befriending and caring for those parts we lost—we can grow and nourish our essence, our soul light, more easily. Still, when we’re knocked sideways by personal challenges, grief, or loss, our light dims and we have to focus again on building it back up. Part of this is being conscious: remembering our inner
light. Part of it is focusing our spiritual or meditation practice. And part is feeling how delicious it is to get back into our radiance and live from the flow and ease of our inner light.
A Few Simple Practices for Remembering Your Inner Light- Swallow the Sun when you see it rising in the morning. Sticking out your tongue to receive the
light, lifting your open mouth so the light flows in and down your throat, swallow the golden warmth and feel it come into you, three times.
This is an ancient Earth Medicine tool. I learned it from Quechua people high in the Andes mountains of Peru. When they emerge from their unheated stone huts into the sunrise, they swallow the sun to warm quickly. It’s also how they fill with light consciously,
washing away any vestiges of heaviness from the night. - Concentrate on the speck of light at the center of your heart. Watch the light in your heart expand and grow. See it fill you up, radiating into your cells and organs. See it spread beyond your skin, beyond your aura. Experience your peaceful glow.
Set your intention to offer your light to a person, place, or region that needs support, if you wish. Feel your light emanating for as long as you can. When you practice this frequently, it becomes easier and more natural! - When you are feeling your inner smile, look into your eyes in a mirror.
See the joy and love in them. Know that you can reach this state frequently.
- Notice how being in the sun—at the beach, in the garden, on a walk—fills you with a delicious sensation of being lit up from inside. Play with this: watch how the bright, white sunlight both envelops and emanates from you.
- Go outside and commune with the moon each night as it gets full. Feel your connection with all the other humans and animals who are enjoying the moonlight. Let yourself be drawn into the web of light at the full moon.
As you consciously befriend the sun and
moon, they become your companions. By engaging with them and getting to know their qualities, you build a reciprocal relationship that will feed and nourish you. It’s simple spiritual practices like these that fill, us, sustain us, help us return to the present moment. It’s our intent, our dreams, and our light that keep us going. Remembering your inner light helps lift heaviness from your heart. It opens you to the beauty and harmony of our interconnected world, and it feeds your courage in spreading light in the world. Your bright, shining light, your heart, and your love are essential to these troubled
times! Happy Solstice!!
